How many walleyes can you keep on Lake Winnie?

Lake Winnibigoshish (Lake Winnie) has some of the most generous walleye regulations in the state of Minnesota. As of 2022, anglers can keep 6 walleyes on Lake Winnie. This is the daily bag limit. It is also the possession limit in Minnesota. Once an angler has 6 walleyes in possession they are considered to be filled out. Anglers cannot continue fishing for walleyes once the possession limit has been reached. Walleyes between 18 and 23 inches must be released. Anglers are allowed to keep 1 walleye over 23 inches. How do you catch walleye on Lake Winnibigoshish?

Walleyes on Lake Winnibigoshish can be caught using a wide variety of tactics. More often than not though, anglers during open water months catch a majority of walleyes on Lake Winnie using jigs and minnows, trolling spinner rigs, trolling crankbaits, and lindy rigging.
New technology has paved the way for anglers to actively search and target walleyes with slip bobbers as well. Live imaging sonar will help anglers identify walleyes away from the boat. Casting slip bobbers to these fish can be a very productive way of catching walleyes on Lake Winnie. It also helps anglers from spooking fish, keeping them in the target area much longer.

Lake Winnie fishing map

Anglers have so many resources to utilize as far as mapping technology goes nowadays. However, sometimes I find myself, especially in the winter months enjoying time studying paper maps or pictures of maps online. Lake Winnie is a diverse fishery and can often leave anglers feeling a little overwhelmed. Start with wind direction when choosing where to fish for the day. Anything over 7 mph can create some very large waves on the lake. Check out these maps by northland fishing to help you the next time you are planning a trip to the big pond. https://www.northlandtackle.com/lake-winnibigoshish-walleyes-through-the-seasons/
